Dexters are quite mini - I'd liek some of them; or Belted Galloways. Ouissant sheepa re mini too, they'd be useful, and a few old fashioned pigs; some emat chickens and rabbits.

We've said that if we had a bit of land, we'd only go for meat and egg chickens, ducks and geese because we could kill them ourselves. Larger animals require an abattoir for slaughter and that means shelling out cash! I'd love goats as well though.

You can slaughter at home for home consumption, but you still need to be confident and capable of a proper kill.
I think if the SHTF, though, a lot of things will go by the board, and folk will jsut be left to get on with things. Not sure how good or how bad that is, potentially.

It's the ability to do it properly ourselves which would put us off having larger livestock and I think we'd live happily enough on poultry.
